Pelvic Floor Pain

A Message From Stella Dimitrakakis, PT, DPT, CFMT, OCS, Owner and Founder of Soma Vita Physio & Wellness
Pelvic floor dysfunction can occur for various reasons throughout a woman’s life. Childbirth can overstretch muscles and nerves, damage connective tissue leading to prolapse, change pelvic positioning, or reduce muscle contraction due to scar tissue. Hormonal fluctuations throughout life can also impact pelvic floor functionality. Additionally, trauma like falls, auto accidents, surgery side effects, or negative sexual experiences can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction, causing pain and incontinence. Some women are born with overly tight muscles, contributing to pelvic pain and incontinence. Conditions like endometriosis, interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), and pudendal neuralgia are also commonly linked to pelvic pain, painful sex, and incontinence.
Nearly 25% of women experience pelvic floor disorders, and this risk increases with age—up to 50% of women may face pelvic floor dysfunction by the age of 80. Incontinence, in particular, is one of the leading causes of nursing home admission. While these issues are common, they are not normal and shouldn’t be accepted as a part of aging. Addressing them early on can make a significant difference in your quality of life.
At Soma Vita Physio & Wellness, we specialize in identifying the root cause of your pelvic floor dysfunction and designing a personalized treatment plan to address your specific needs, helping you restore function and live without pain or limitations.

Don’t put up with it any longer. Soma Vita Physio & Wellness can assist you.
- Tired of urine leakage (incontinence) while running, jumping, or even going about your daily business?
- Are you concerned about postpartum back, hip, or pelvic pain that won't go away?
- Feeling self-conscious, frustrated, or discouraged since the birth of your child, believing you'll never be able to regain control of your body?
- Do you find sex painful or uncomfortable?
- Having difficulty keeping up with your children and feeling as if you're missing out on life?
- Lacking confidence because you know your core isn't working properly, you have a Diastasis Recti, or you still look pregnant despite the fact that you aren't?
- Frustrated that other approaches haven't worked (even if they were from another PT) or unsure what to try?
- Are you looking for a long-term, natural solution that will permanently eliminate these issues (without medications or surgery)?
You've come to the right place if you answered "Yes" to any of these questions!
- "Do nothing but rest for 6 weeks, then resume your normal activity," your doctor advises. Weeks, months, and even years pass, and you're still struggling.
- "Just do some YouTube workout videos and you'll be back in shape in no time," but those workouts cause pain and leakage, and you feel terrible and discouraged afterwards.
- It's "normal" to experience pain or abdominal separation after giving birth, and "everyone leaks" or struggles with bladder control as they get older.
- Everything will be fine if you take some pain relievers.
- Only medicine, surgery, or "just dealing with it" are options.
The Reality Is…
- Resting it makes no difference. You may experience some temporary relief, but when you return to work, you will still be suffering from pelvic pain, leakage, and other postpartum symptoms (I'm sure you've already experienced this!).
- While it is very common, having lasting pain or urine leakage after pregnancy... or even with age... is NOT NORMAL.
- Pain relievers are addictive, dangerous, and can cause a variety of other health issues.
- Medicine, surgery, and injections are not the only options available. They are the only options available to you from your doctor.

Choosing the right provider is everything.
It can mean the difference between years of feeling dismissed—or finally getting your life and body back.
Too often, people with pelvic floor pain are told their pain is “in their head,” handed a list of stretches or medications, or advised to “just do Kegels”—without addressing what’s actually causing their pain.
But that’s not your only option.
The truth is:
Getting the least-invasive, most holistic care is essential to healing your pelvic floor pain—and preventing it from getting worse over time.

Pelvic floor pain is not just a pelvic issue.
It’s often a complex interaction between muscular tension, mobility restrictions, nervous system reactivity, and compensatory movement patterns.

What Other People Just Like You Are Saying About Soma Vita Physio Wellness in Watchung NJ
80+ 5-Star Reviews
- Sigal E.
“I came to Soma Vita half way through a pregnancy, feeling very discouraged by pelvic pain that had been plaguing me for a few weeks. I worried that I would be unable to maintain any kind of physical activity for the duration of the pregnancy (forget exercise – I needed to be able to comfortably walk, take care of my kids, and otherwise manage day to day life). Immediately, Stella was able to identify the problem and address the areas at issue. With regular sessions, she both worked out the problem areas and strengthened adjacent/otherwise related areas. I continued on through the pregnancy to address any other aches and pains that arose. I am so grateful to have had such a competent and dedicated practitioner to address these issues and keep me comfortably mobile through my pregnancy. This was hands down the best thing I did for myself this pregnancy. I look forward to continuing with Stella postpartum to return to a regular exercise routine.

“If you are looking for a PT to help with pelvic floor issues or anything of the sort, look no further! Stella was absolutely amazing in making me feel comfortable at every appointment and explaining everything so thoroughly. Before my therapy I couldn’t do certain jumping exercises but now I am able to do so without issues. She also made sure that I would have a plan for home after therapy was over. I would absolutely recommend her to everyone!!”
- Yuliana B.
“Stella is the most amazing physical therapist you will ever meet. Not only is she passionate but incredibly knowledgeable. When I reached out to her I was experiencing some incontinence (I’m only 32) and lots of pelvic and lower back pain. She worked with me to release muscles that I didn’t even know had a role in that pain and she taught me how to sit and stand better. Who knew there was a correct way to sit? She really made a difference in my life and I recommend her to any woman experiencing pelvic discomfort. No it is not normal to pee every time you sneeze or laugh, even if you had a kid. She can help you fix that!”
